Meet Charles R. Tyrrell

Charlie Charles R. Tyrrell was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1940 and grew up helping in his parents’ neighborhood grocery store. Long before learning concepts such as cash flow and profit margin, he was already living them. By the age of nineteen, he had achieved a number of notable milestones: serving as an assistant supervisor at the Cincinnati Public Library, running a ham radio station, driving a vintage 1957 Chevrolet, building a valued collection of 45 RPM records, and spending weekends working as a disc jockey and dancer.

Charles holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering, served four years in the Air Force, and initiated his professional career in both engineering and business administration. He subsequently dedicated several decades to the field of information technology, specializing in software development and networking.

Throughout his journey, Charles remained committed to exploration. He has completed 15 ocean cruises and traveled to 145 cities across 37 countries, gathering stories, forming friendships, and collecting moments of quiet wonder wherever he went. At home, he is a dedicated genealogist, an avid participant in indoor sports (particularly ping-pong, darts, and pool), and a perceptive observer of those around him, a tendency that ultimately evolved into his most significant creative pursuit.

That creative pursuit emerged later in life than he had anticipated. Having settled into the lively community of Acoya Troon in Scottsdale, Arizona, Charles found himself immersed in new friendships and the kind of everyday experiences worth recording.

A lifelong observer of people and their narratives, he later discovered a renewed creative spark—one that inspired him to document the humour, warmth, and small adventures that define his daily life. Life Between Two Mountains is his first book, created from a desire to honour those who welcomed him, the moments that caught him by surprise, and the simple reality that joy often appears unexpectedly.

With the success of his first book, Charles turned to a new challenge—one based on historical records and family genealogy. In Born of Timber and Sails, Charles brings to life the human side of America’s expansion — a story of war, faith, perseverance, and the enduring power of family.

He then turned to a story of introspection—one that demanded not just memory, but reached deeper into the past and further into the meaning behind it. His book A Man of Many Chapters, wasn’t simply a story; it was an excavation. A historical autobiography shaped from the raw material of his own life, it gathered the stories that had tested him, humbled him, and ultimately taught him how to stand on his own.

When Charles isn’t writing, he enjoys exploring genealogy, immersing himself in the creative arts, and staying active with his favorite indoor sports. He shares his home—and plenty of laughter—with Joan and two mischievous cats who always steal the show.
